Cochran Clean-Up Day began in 2015, and it’s been held each year since around Earth Day — this year, Earth Day is the Tuesday before the event.

The City of Cochran and the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber Commerce are preparing to welcome volunteers for their annual community beautification day. This year’s Clean-Up Day will take place April 26 starting at 9 a.m.

Cochran Clean-Up Day began in 2015, and it’s been held each year since around Earth Day — this year, Earth Day is the Tuesday before the event. Members of the Cochran community will get together to clean up little along the city’s roads. Folks are also encouraged to clean up their immediate areas and neighborhoods.

This year, immediately following the Clean-Up Day, there is the inaugural Downtown Day, a celebration hosted by the Downtown Development Authority. The event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will feature a kids zone from Big Mike’s Inflatables and food trucks, and businesses will be open to visit and shop.

Cochran community members from the local public schools, volunteer organizations, Middle Georgia State University, churches and more get together each year during Clean-Up Day with the goal of improving the wellbeing and aesthetics of their city.

“Anytime we can bring the community together with a single vision and goal for positive changes and impacts, we are doing the right thing for our community,” said Melissa Barker, CEO and president of the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce. “This will be a great time for families to teach their children about the importance of giving back, community pride, and working together.”

Sign-up is located behind the police station and auditorium, located at 102 N Second St. All are welcome, and supplies will be provided by the hosts of the events.

Similar to previous years, scrap tire amnesty will be available at the sign-up location, allowing community members to dispose of old rimless tires for free.

“Families just need to come out and plan to spend a day giving back to the community, followed by a fun time in downtown Cochran with food trucks and a big kids zone and downtown shopping opportunities,” Barker said.

Attendees are encouraged to wear brightly colored clothing in order to stay safe on the roads. To learn more about Clean-Up Day, contact City Hall at 478-934-6346.
