The mobile mammogram program, which debuted in January, brings a state-of-the-art, 3D digital breast imaging system in the 35-foot coach to convenient areas to allow women 40 and older to get screened.

Accounting for about 30% of all new female cancers each year, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women, Navicent said in a release. It’s recommended that all women have a baseline screening mammogram at age 40, and in some cases, women between the ages of 35 and 39 may also need a baseline mammogram.

“Atrium Health Navicent is proud to be increasing access to mammograms, taking this service to the places where women live, work and live their lives to make it easier for them to participate in a screening,” program manager Latasha Hill said. “Breast cancer screening can detect cancer early, when it’s easier to treat.”

The coach is staffed by female technologists who are trained in screening mammography, according to Navicent. Since the program’s start, the coach has provided nearly 300 screenings.

Screenings will be available to those at least 40 years old, those with a history of breast cancer and anyone with a physician’s order. Patients are instructed to bring a current photo ID and their insurance card.

While insurance is encouraged, Navicent also provides mammograms to uninsured women free of cost thanks to grant funding and donations.

“No woman should go without a screening mammogram based on their income or lack of,” their website says.

At the At Home Senior Living event, custom-designed T-shirts will be available, “sharing a message of hope, support and community strength,” the facility said.
