The Bleckley Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint a new member to the vacant district 1 seat during a work session Aug. 6.

The district 1 seat was previously held by Melissa Stewart, who vacated the position after accepting a job with the school district, according to Bleckley County Schools. Her resignation was accepted during the May 21 meeting, the same day she was on the ballot for the general primary election as an uncontested incumbent.
