Bleckley boys and girls soccer headed for playoffs

The Royals will almost certainly be on the road in the playoffs, though the No. 29 ranking should improve once private schools are removed from the rankings.

The soccer teams for Bleckley County both should be in the playoffs with region play complete.

The girls team has looked the most promising so far, as Bleckley County boasts a 9-5 record overall with a 5-3 region line so far. They rank No. 29 in the GHSA Post Season Rankings (PSR) as of Tuesday, good enough for a playoff spot.

The 5-3 mark in Region 2-A Division I is good enough for fourth place in a tough league with powerhouses ACE and East Laurens.

The girls are finished with region play, losing their final pair of Region 2 games, one to East Laurens and the other against Dodge County. They closed out the season with Northside and Lamar County this week.

The Royals will almost certainly be on the road in the playoffs, though the No. 29 ranking should improve once private schools are removed from the rankings and give Bleckley County a relatively close seed instead of a top-10 opponent.

The boys are playoff-bound as well, finishing fourth in Region 2 with a 4-4 record against region teams and a 6-9 record overall. Though the ride was bumpier, wins against close competitors like Central and Washington County helped the Royals hold off East Laurens for the fourth place spot in the region.

The power rankings are not as kind to the boys team, as they lost more games to earn a No. 41 ranking as of Tuesday. While the region finish gives them a playoff spot, they will likely be near the bottom of the 32-team field and face a tough opponent on the road to begin the playoffs next week.
