The Cochran City Council voted Feb. 11 to extend weekday hours of operation for liquor sales by one hour.

Following the quick unanimous approval, the city’s lone liquor store will be able to stay open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours will remain 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The decision comes after the city awarded its first-ever liquor license via lottery to 7 Star Package, co-owned by Andy and Bijal Ravleker. The store held its grand opening in December.

Cochran dropped its dry status after local voters cast their ballots in 2022. Before that, only beer and wine could be sold.

7 Star had a well-attended grand opening with strong support from the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce due to the fact that it would “keep more of our money in our community,” they wrote on a Facebook post prior to the store’s opening. Before that, residents of Cochran had to travel out of Bleckley County to buy liquor.
